Disturbance in Cinia's C-Lion Submarine Cable

Disturbance in Cinia's C-Lion Submarine Cable

Some disturbance has been detected on the C-Lion1 submarine cable between Finland and Germany.

However, the disturbance does not affect the functionality of telecommunications connections running in the cable and the data traffic continues flowing normally.  The exact cause of the disturbance is still under investigation.

Cinia has submitted a request for investigation to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

The damage to the C-Lion1 submarine cable has been confirmed as a shunt fault. The fault has been localized between Gotland and Ventspils, in the same area where damage to the Sweden-Latvia telecommunications cable was detected on January 26, 2025.

The C-Lion1 cable continues to operate normally but requires repair. The repair process has been initiated, and preparations are being made to dispatch a repair vessel to the fault site.

Repair operations are expected to begin during the week starting March 10.
